SRRA began as a partnership between the Canadian Urban Institute and Real Estate Search Corporation in 2008. In 2011, that partnership expanded to include public and private sector participants.
The inspiration to create SRRA came from the Regional Planning Association (RPA), which has been providing infrastructure planning for the New York City and its neighbours in the region since 1922. The RPA is an independent source of long range infrastructure planning expertise supported by both public and private sector entities. The RPA conducts an Annual Assembly brining many experts from around the world to exchange ideas and periodically commissions comprehensive long-range plans to provide strategic vision for the New York Region.
Since 2011, SRRA has provided policy innovation in collaboration with its diverse assembly of decision makers to produce research papers and communications through its many Forums and like the RPA has introduced solutions to changes in the way cities adapt to change.
